A payoff was in store - free golf! - for the "seven or eight" hardy types who played Rock Springs Ridge GC in shorts.
Just like those shirtless guys you find at December football games, some folks can’t resist trying to brave the elements. And more than a half-dozen of them found their way to Apopka’s Rock Springs Ridge GC for a little free golf.
According to J.T. Copas in the pro shop, “seven or eight” hardy souls met the Eskimo Golf challenge of playing 18 holes in five hours or less, dressed in summer attire - shorts, short-sleeved shirt, socks and golf shoes.
“A couple of guys were shivering more than usual,” noted Copas, who was in the process of rewarding two survivors when we called for a late-afternoon update.
Winners received a voucher for a free round of golf anytime before the end of the year. Temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-70s on Friday and Saturday - and even if it’s colder, they’ll be free to wear jackets and long pants.
“We’re trying to have a little sense of humor,” Rock Springs Ridge GM Chris Gunstream said when the promotion first began making the rounds on Tuesday.
